A great idea reloaded – Part 5

Unfortunately, a participant from Asia fell ill, meaning we could only continue the tour from Landshut to Neuenmarkt Wirsberg later on. Despite this, we managed to arrive at the small guesthouse in Wirsberg just in time to enjoy our pre-ordered evening meal. A traditional Franconian feast awaited us there, which the guests were very impressed by: the so-called Schäuferla – a roast pork shoulder with a crispy crackling, served with potato dumplings and sauerkraut.

After this hearty meal and a good portion of sleep, we moved to the DDM located in the same town, the German Steam Locomotive Museum. After the production of the model of the glass box / class 983 was relocated to the main plant of BMB/Bee's Modellbahnverlag, further measuring work was pending in order to adapt the vehicles structurally on a smaller scale so that they correspond exactly to the original.

Thanks to good contacts with, among others, the museum and a sign collector, it was also possible not only to photograph and measure the glass box from the outside and on its roof, but especially inside the driver's cab, where previously it had only been possible to design based on drawings.

Following this once again extensive work, a tour of the museum with its many exhibits was next on the agenda. The Far Eastern guests were able to further broaden their horizons regarding German vehicles, which led to many discussions among them about the technologies and appearance of various vehicles and was met with great gratitude towards the host.

On the evening of the same day, the journey continued to Leipzig. But that is yet another new leg of the journey, which will follow in a further post. Look forward to it!

Now, here are a few photos from the experiences of this leg. Enjoy them!
