Fans of the SBB light railcar have been waiting a long time for the model, the delivery date has often been postponed and recently there has been very little news about it. Today, the parcel service brought our author Peter Pernsteiner a completely unexpected surprise.
The package sent by Märklin contained the production model of the electric railcar built in the 1930s for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). After the Great Depression in 1928, they were looking for cost-effective ways to operate low-traffic lines. The Red Arrow was well-suited for this. As traffic increased, light trains had to be deployed, and the popular railcars were used for excursion services.
The model is based on the RCe 2/4 series, a third-class electric multiple unit. It is still operated today as a museum vehicle and maintained by Oensingen-Balsthal-Bahn AG (OeBB). The model bears the running number 607 and the livery from the 1950s, but is in its 2023 operational condition.
The „Red Arrow“ can currently be ordered and is available in the Märklin online shop at the RRP of €3,290.
